Well, here we go:

A Holden Commodore VS Executive Sedan V6 auto.

Inspiration:

Street Commodores V6 Vengeance definitely got me fired. Also, apersonal passion to modify an Ecotec V6. Man, these engines were built for performance & efficiency.

Why:

Because these cars are everywhere and cheap. The Ecotec V6 is a great base engine to begin with having approximately 20kw more power than the VN, VP motor. I have chosen the Executive model as I do not want to be dragging electric windows, cruise control and other luxury features down the quarter mile. In fact, the VS model is overall lighter in weight than later model Commodores which will be a definite advantage with our overall power to weight ratio and greatly assist achieving optimum vehicle handling and braking efficiency. I feel I can substantially improve the overall mechanical qualities of this model and make it look hot also. Transmission selection is purely an individual preference. However, I tend to feel the public majority prefer auto's with manual transmission models being a rare find. (OK: manuals are more fun...!!).

We found one...!!

Its been some time since I have needed to buy a second hand car and it certainly was an unwelcome reminder of just how much time this exercise can soak up.

I thought this would be the easy part. Just check out the net, local rag or used car dealer scene & select...!! Commodores are everywhere aren't they...?? Yeah, they sure are, but do you think I could find one that hit the spot..?? I do tend to have this quality of driving my partner Kim & others crazy with the need to be analytic and 100% sure before I do anything. Kims intuition is Just do it !! Whilst we often will clash, sometimes her attitude does rub off and help me over the line at times. Initially, I was just after your average hack however, after a little more thought and as I become more involved with this project, the higher I seem to be raising the bar as to how much I want the finished product to be absolute quality.

Well this project is certainly evolving into a labour of love more than anything common sense. On the day I made the decision to buy this car we had about $80.00 in personal funds. The business is just holding its own and we have budgeted to the last cent to see this project through. My head tells me to forget it and save for things like a new oven because the door has just fallen off our existing one. However, the heart & passion keep taking over. (The oven will have to settle for some dodgy repairs for now).

So, the show must go on...!!

Enter: My Street Car...!!

Vehicle details:

Vehicle: Holden Commodore VS Sedan Executive
Year: 08/95
Engine: V6 Ecotec
Trans: Automatic
Current km: 175 456
Colour: White
Cost: $4200
General condition: Unreal
Options: Air bag, tow bar, ABS, New CD player (Bonus, but won't match the growl of extractors & big bore exhaust), speed alert that sits just left of the tacho. (Being more of an engine man, my focus will be more to the right).

Whilst I paid a little more than I had initially planned for this vehicle and it having more options than first intended, the simple fact is that this vehicle is in excellent condition. This Commodore left everything else I looked at for dead and as far as I was concerned the search was now over. Testament to the last owners, this car is showroom quality. I will endeavour to use the extras on this vehicle to an advantage later in the project. I guess I feel money spent now on buying an "excellent condition vehicle" may save money in the long run. After all the searching, in the end we brought the VS off the net from a really friendly family who lived basically around the corner. Its funny how things turn out...!!
